Balasinor Fossil Park Raioli, Balasinor – Raioli near Balasinor is one of the most important Dinosaur sites in Asia. Discovered in 1981, the fossils are more than 65 million years old. Developed by the Gujarat Tourism this world’s 2nd largest site, is also referred to as India’s Jurassic Park. The excavation site contains fossilized eggs, bones and other remains in natural form of around 12 species of Dinosaurs. Visiting the site, may take around half a day.

Sardar Patel Memorial
 – The Sardar Patel Memorial Trust is an organization dedicated to preserving the work and memory of Indian political leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It does a variety of work – publishing books and magazines on Patel’s life and work, maintaining public displays and memorials, as well as hosting the annual Sardar Patel Memorial Lectures.

Vadtal – The town of Vadtal is also known as Vadtal Swaminarayan. The temple here is in the shape of a lotus, with nine domes in the inner temple. The land for this shrine was donated by Joban Pagi, a dacoit converted into a devotee by Swaminarayan. The temple was constructed under the supervision of S.G. Brahmanand Swami.

Dakor – Dakor is prominent for its grand temple of Shree Krishna. On full moon days, people visit the temple to seek the blessings as was done by the devotee who brought Shree Krishna to the temple. So there is a great inflow of people and the town is very crowded. There is a carnival or fair taking place around February and March, on the day of festival of Holi and observed by all Hindus as a mark for triumph of the truth and goodness. On the day of Sarad Purnima which comes after end of Navratra is the day believed on which Lord Krishna come to Dakor as Ranchodrai with his great devotee known as Bodana. Lord comes to Dakor to fulfill the promise that he will come to Dakor with Bodana.

Lothal – Lothal is one of the most prominent cities of the ancient Indus valley civilization. Located in Bhāl region of the modern state of Gujarat and dating from 2400 BCE, it is one of India’s most important archaeological sites that date from that era. Discovered in 1954, Lothal was excavated from February 13, 1955 to May 19, 1960 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Maharaja Sayajirao Museum – Also known as the Vadodara Museum, Maharaja Sayajirao Museum is an important tourist attraction of Gujarat. Set up in 1894 AD by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, the museum exhibits fine collections of artifacts including sculptures, ancient manuscripts, industrial arts and royal family memorabilia. It also has a good collection of Egyptian antiquities and the famous Akota Bronzes, dating from the 5th century A.D. The adjoining art gallery has a great collection of Mughal miniatures, paintings from the European masters and valuable palm-leaf manuscripts of Buddhist and Jain origin. Other remarkable collections at the Museum include a full-fledged gallery of Tibetan Art. And for its unique and rare exhibits, the Maharaja Sayajirao Museum enjoys an international reputation for being one of the best in the East.

Maharaja Fatehsinh Museum – Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is a museum housed within the Maharaja’s palace (the Lakshmi Vilas Palace) in Vadodara. The building was constructed as a school for the Maharaja’s children. Today a large number of works of art belonging to the Royal family are displayed in the museum. The museum contains works of art collected by Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III during his numerous trips out of India. The major works of art in this museum are the paintings by European and Indian artists including a collection of the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, who was specially commissioned by the then Maharaja of Baroda. The collection includes portraits of the Royal family in addition to the paintings based on Hindu mythology for which Raja Ravi Varma was famous.

Sayajirao Gaekwad Palace – The term Maharaja Palace actually refers to a series of palaces in Vadodara, constructed since the Gaekwad family started ruling the Vadodara State. The first one was a building known as the Sarkar Wada. This building, not really a palace, was given up for the Nazarbaug Palace built in old classical style. This once a magnificent building is now in a dilapidated state. After this the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, an extravagant building of the Indo-Saracenic school, was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at a cost of GBP180,000. Major Charles Mant was the architect. It is reputed to have been the largest private dwelling built in the nineteenth century and four times the size of Buckingham Palace. At the time of construction it boasted the most modern amenities such as elevators and the interior is reminiscent of a large European country house. It remains the residence of the Royal Family, who continues to be held in high esteem by the residents of Baroda.

Pavagadh – Pavagadh is 2700ft above the sea level, and a Municipality in Panchmahal district about 46 kilometres (29 miles) away from Vadodara. It is known for a famous Mahakali temple which draws thousands of pilgrims everyday. Pavagadh is the gateway to Panchmahal.  According to legends, Pavagadh is the chunk of the Himalayas that was carried by Hanuman to Lanka. At its base lies the town of Champaner. Pavagadh along with Champaner and Machhi is a UNESCO world heritage site. The hill of Pavagadh rises from Champaner in three stages and this plateau lies at an altitude of 1,471 feet. Pavagadh is also known as the birthplace of Gujarat’s famous musician, Baiju Bawra. The main attraction in Pavagdh is the famous temple of Goddess Mahakali that is located on the top of a hill. Pilgrims can either walk or use the ropeway facility, which also affords a fantastic view of the surrounding vistas and scenery. This temple is dedicated to an avatar of the Durga and is greatly revered by the locals and tourists.

Champaner – Champaner is a historical city in the state of Gujarat. It is located in Panchmahal district, 47 kilometres from the city of Vadodara. The city was briefly the capital of Gujarat. It was founded by Vanraj Chavda, the most prominent king of the Chavda Kingdom, in the 8th century. He named it after the name of his friend and general Champa, also known later as Champaraj. Champaner is today the site of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, which UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site in 2004.Sultan Bhegada also built a magnificent Jama Masjid in Champaner, which ranks amongst the finest architectural edifices in Gujarat. It is an imposing structure on a high plinth, with a central dome, two minarets 30 meters in height, 172 pillars, seven mihrabs, and carved entrance gates with fine stone jalis.

Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary  Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, primarily comprising of a huge lake and ambient marshes, is situated about 64 km to the West of Ahmedabad. Mainly inhabited by migratory birds in winter and spring, it is the largest wetland bird sanctuary in Gujarat, and one of the largest in India. The lake measures 123 km², attracts over 210 species of birds in the winter, and harbors a variety of flora and fauna. The shallow area and ponds on the outer fringes of the lake attract the wading birds that feed in the shallow waters. Besides a few mammalian species including the endangered wild ass and the blackbuck, its migratory bird population includes Rosy Pelicans, Flamingoes, White Storks, Brahminy Ducks and Herons.

Akshardham – Akshardham Temple is made out of 6,000 tonnes of pink sandstones, placed intricately together. The most amazing part of this splendor is that not even a single iron rod was used to construct the temple. Its just the accurate placement of the stones that brought out this bewitching building. The temple is a work of 900 skilled craftsmen who created 93 sculpted pillars, 40 windows carved from both sides, and a feast of forms and filigrees.

Innumerable tourists and Hindu devout visit this holy place to discover its designs, devotion, inspiration, calm and sooth. The temple has renowned itself nationally as well as internationally. It is first of its kind, not only in India but in the world.

Gandhi Ashram, Sabarmati – Sabarmati Ashram ,also known as Gandhi Ashram, Harijan Ashram, or Satyagraha Ashram is located in the Ahmedabad suburb of Sabarmati adjoining to famous Ashram Road, at the bank of River Sabarmati,4 miles away from the city Town Hall. This was one of the residences of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. This ashram is now a national monument by the Government of India due to its significance in the Indian independence movement in the form of the Dandi March in 1930.

Sidi Saiyyed Mosque – The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, built in 1573, is one of the most famous mosques of Ahmedabad. As per the marble stone tablet fixed on the wall of the mosque, it was built by Sidi Saeed (aka Sidi Saiyyed) an Abyssinian in the retinue of Bilal Jhajar Khan, General in the army of the last Sultan Shams-ud-Din Muzaffar Shah III of Sultanate. The mosque was built in the last year of the Sultanate of Gujrat. The mosque is entirely arcuated and is famous for beautifully carved ten stone latticework windows (jalis) on the side and rear arches. The rear wall is filled with square stone pierced panels in geometrical designs. The two bays flanking the central aisle have reticulated stone slabs carved in designs of intertwined trees and foliage and a palm motif. This intricately carved stone window is called the Siddi Sayyed Jali. Siddi Sayyed Jali is unofficial symbol of city of Ahmedabad. It is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. This jali inspired the design of the logo of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Kankaria – Kankaria is the biggest lake in Ahmedabad (in earlier days it used to known, name by Qutub Hojj). Where all kings, or badshah, used to do bath in this lake. With an approximate circumference of 1.4 miles (2.3 km), it represents the regale history of Ahmedabad. Kankaria was built by Sultan Kutubuddin in 15th century A.D. The work was completed in 1451. Its ancient name is Hauj-E-Kutub. At one point of the circular lake, there opens a walkway which later merges into a garden called Nagina Wadi (means beautiful garden in Urdu) that is located in the center of the lake. Lighting and special effects on the walkway and sumptuous food of the restaurants in the central garden make the lake a worthwhile place to visit or spend an evening. Kankaria is well-known for its junk food in the entire province of Gujarat. At night, the junk food business soars up. Especially in the summer between months of March and June. A train named ‘Atal Express'(Named after former prime-minister of India Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birthday 25 December 2008) has been imported from London; the train circles the lake on a 4.5 km track at a speed of 10 km/h. The train has the capacity to carry 150 passengers, including 36 adults. The train is manufactured by Severn Lamb.

Jama Masjid – At the eastern side of Teen Darwaza, Jama Masjid is located opposite to Mahatma Gandhi Road. It is one of the most beautiful mosques in India. The grand edifice was built by Ahmed Shah in 1423 A.D. from the items ransomed from the demolished Hindu and Jain temples. Built in yellow sand stones, this marvelous mosque has a combination of Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture. There are about 260 columns within the mosque to protect its roof. There used be two shaking minarets as well but they got completely demolished during the earthquake of 1819 and 1957. It is believed that the large black slab around the main arc is actually the base of a Jain idol, buried upside down by the Sultan.

Hussain Doshi Gufa – Hussain Doshi Gufa is an underground art gallery located in Ahmedabad that depicts the works of the famous Indian painter named M.F.Hussain. It has been designed by the famous architect B. V. Doshi. Thus, the art gallery has been named after the two eminent personalities, Hussain and Doshi. The gallery is more popularly known as Amdavad ni Gufa. It has been given the name Gufa, as its structural design resembles a cave. For the art lovers, Hussain Doshi Gufa is a real feast for eyes. The Hussain Doshi Gufa art gallery in Ahmedabad lies in the surrounding areas of the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology. This structure has been constructed using simple hand tools and that too by unskilled workers. The art gallery has been built on the basis of computer aided designs.

Adalaj Stepwell – Adalaj Stepwell is a unique Hindu ‘water building’ in the village of Adalaj, close to Ahmedabad town in Gandhinagar district. The stepwell was built in 1499 by Muslim king Mohammed Bhegda for Queen Rani Roopba, wife of Veer Singh, the Vaghela chieftain. The step well or ‘Vav’, as it is called in Gujarati, is intricately carved and is five stories in depth. Such step wells were once integral to the semi arid regions of Gujarat as they provided basic water needs for drinking, washing and bathing. These wells were also venues for colorful festivals and sacred rituals.
